The Kickstarter-funded side-scrolling action platformer was first met with great enthusiasm by Mega Man fans, but it then hit some snags in development. This caused the release date to be constantly pushed back—a fairly common occurrence with crowdfunded indie games.
Inafune had this to say about the delays.

This isn’t the first time a famous game designer constantly hyped up a game, despite problems.
Mighty No. 9 is set for release in North America and Japan on June 21 and Europe on June 24 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii U, 3DS, and PC.
